Domain parking with Win2k3 DNS??
Posted by bloodsport, 08-03-2007, 09:47 AM Hi, i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS?? I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries.. anyone? Thx

Posted by plumsauce, 08-05-2007, 06:03 PM Your dns server needs to know what answer you intend it to give for the question that is being asked. That means you have to give it the information. This is true no matter what dns server you choose. The best you can do is to automate it as much as possible. for example, i have a script where i type: dns park example.com it creates the proper dns records and points it at the common parking site which uses the host header to decide what to show on the page. i have another script, where i type: dns full example.com 192.168.100.2 directoryname sitename sitenumber which creates the proper set of records for a production site, the content subdirectory and an iis site with the desired site name, site number, listening on the specified ip. i still have to type in one of these two commands though. the script is just a bunch of batch files running a bunch of command line tools against the parameters in the command line.
Posted by bloodsport, 08-14-2007, 10:09 AM Hey, thanks for your help guys.. but all i want is to resolve the domains in the same folder, so i can use my friend's *.asp script to serve/redirect them.. i don't like to get extra webspace just bcause i can't get my own domains parked like those parking companies do... Posted by Dave W, 08-17-2007, 09:15 AM What are you talking about? Windows 2003 DNS only responds to records that exist in the DNS database... Create the record and be done with it or use your registrar to redirect your domain to the other one. Even if you get the DNS taken care of that doesn't "park" your domain unless the site your pointing it at is IP based instead of NAME based... If the site is NAME based you need to get the admin to add your domain to the host mask list for that web.
