Monitoring System
Posted by prashant1979, 06-22-2008, 12:51 AM Hello, I am looking for a server monitoring system to monitor over 50 servers, both Windows and Linux and a few switches and CISCO Firewalls. Which is the best monitoring system, both free and commercial. I also want a facility of sending SMS in case a server or a hardware is down.
Posted by WebbyCart, 06-22-2008, 12:57 AM Hi, You can check hyperspin.com if you need SMS alert, but for free with just email alert check on nagios. Regards, Bobby

Posted by activelobby4u, 06-23-2008, 02:56 AM nagios is another one..you can also try zabbix
Posted by dollar, 06-23-2008, 02:56 AM Depending on your setup nagios might be just the way to go. It's not going to provide "external" monitoring persay, but each machine can monitor the other machines. As far as SMS goes most every provider in the US (Cell phone provider) has a setup such as 12345678@example.com that forwards to your cellphone.
Posted by maxknight, 06-23-2008, 03:43 AM Check out NetXMS and Nagios. Both are opensource and also allow to monitor servers and devices using SNMP. ServersAlive is a good and affordable commercial software.
Posted by jtonsupport, 06-23-2008, 06:35 AM Nagios is an Open Source host, service and network monitoring program.

Posted by prashant1979, 06-28-2008, 06:50 AM How is ZenOSS? Anybody used it?
Posted by Dan_EZPZ, 06-28-2008, 07:30 AM I use Zenoss and its very good. Setup was simple and it seems to do a good job.
Posted by prashant1979, 06-28-2008, 08:40 AM Can you tell me what should be the server configuration for the Zenoss to be installed and run? I want to monitor around 100 servers, but the number of servers monitored may increase up to 500 in a year. I am also looking for a long term prospect.
