What to do about another domain pointing toward your IP?

We recently moved one server to a colo provider and were issued new IP's. One IP is causing us trouble. We have been getting blocked from sending email to AOL and other free email companies. When we contacted AOL we were told that they had received complaints about our IP and it was blocked. Upon doing a RBL check and IP check, it seems that the former owner of our IP is still pointing his domain via eNom to our IP and had at one time sent spam. If you reverse DNS our IP's. bad domain -> our IP our domain -> our IP We contacted the eNom legal department (bad domain's registrar) about the problem. They responded that they could not do anything about it, only the registrant could. The spammy domain registrant obviously does not respond to our contacts. What is the best course of action?

Hello, This may sound like a Pain, but ask your DC provider to Give you a new IP in place of the bad one.

The fact the dodgy domain still points to your IP shouldn't affect your chances of getting the IP delisted in the RBLs - otherwise spammers could just point the dodgy domains at any random IP addresses they have never owned. You should ensure that your mail server refuses any messages sent to this bad domain, then ask your service provide to get the IP delisted for you - most RBL providers will only deal with the owner of the IP range.

Yep, now another email host will not accept email, myway.com and the reason is that when they do a reverse dns on our domain; the bad domain is still listed as having the same IP as us.

We had a similar thing, we just send them a legal letter and it was removed in no time. I guess for some webmasters, they love legal letters.

Hi, It sounds like this is an issue with a second PTR record for your IP address. That must be resolved by the owner of the IP delegation. (Probably your ISP or their ISP).

so that's a reverse domain problem you don't need to contact enom, but the provider in charge for PTR delegation (=YOUR dedicated provider).

Your IP is showing bad domain in rdns ? If yes, then have your ISP remove the incorrect rdns entry and get it delisted. If just bad domain is resolving to your IP, then its not rdns and it wont affect in any way. Your IP can be delisted easily in that case.
